Platte County R-3 School District is in the midst of growth and change.

The district's central office is located in Platte City, six miles northwest of Kansas City International Airport. However, more than 40 percent of our 105 square miles is within the city limits of Kansas City.

The location, schools and friendly atmosphere make it attractive to people wishing to relocate in or around the Kansas City area. While located within easy commuting distance of downtown Kansas City and its amenities, a rural, small-town atmosphere prevails.

Unique opportunities exist for R-3 students and parents:

  • Excellent student to teacher ratios
  • A+ High School Designation (free tuition for graduates to junior colleges and vocational programs)
  • An on-site vocational school
  • Some of the top extra-curricular programs in the state

The R-3 Schools have achieved the highest honor of academic distinction in the state of Missouri by earning the classification of "High Performing District" for five straight years. The district also boasts excellent extracurricular programs with three consecutive Missouri Class 3 State Championships in football and back to back Class 3 State Championships in wrestling. Numerous state level accomplishments in vocal, instrumental music and other activities have been achieved.

The district is proud of many new facilities and opportunities for students as a result of 75 percent or greater voter approval on bond issues in 1996, 1998 and 2001 and a $24 million bond issue in 2004. The district's reputation continues to grow as one of the best school districts in the state as evidenced by its recognition for outstanding student performance as a "High Performing" school district, and recognition of Barry School and Platte City Middle School as two of the "top 10" middle schools in the State of Missouri.
